A little about the YMCA Holiday Programme

The YMCA is a major provider of school holiday programmes in Invercargill and as such recognises the importance of offering a quality programme to the community at an affordable price. We pride ourselves on the high level of service, variety and leadership offered for the programme. Our YMCA full day programmes are O.S.C.A.R certified which means we have policies and procedures in place to ensure your children have a safe enjoyable time on our programmes. As we are certified subsidies are available through Work and Income N.Z for Community service cardholders who enrol on our O.S.C.A.R programmes. When is the next YMCA Holiday Programme held?

The next programme will be held in January 2009. Choose from a selection of four holiday programmes these coming summer holidays. One for juniors aged 5 to 8, an adventure programme for children aged 9 to 11 years, one titled Holiday Action for 12 to 14 year olds and then there is also a programme held in Riverton for children aged 5 to 14. Please ensure that for each of the events your children come equipped with a sunhat, drink bottle, jacket and wear weather appropriate clothes and footwear. Everything MUST be named. O.S.C.A.R After School Care

YMCA Invercargill provides OSCAR after school care at St Patrick's School and Riverton Primary from 3pm - 6pm. Children will be cared for by police vetted quality staff that are trained and committed to your Childs development. Although the YMCA Invercargill OSCAR programme is based at St Patrick's, children from all schools in Invercargill are welcome. For South City Schools the YMCA provides a pick up service; your child will be picked up from their school and transported to St Patrick's school at no extra cost! The YMCA is dedicated to providing a quality service.

Healthy food choices and exciting activities will be part of YMCA after school care. An Hourly Rate of $4 per hour at the Invercargill Programme and $3.50 at Riverton, day rate of $10 per child and a weekly rate of $45 per child will apply. WINZ subsidy is available for families who qualify for this service. Please contact your local WINZ office to see if you qualify.

3.00pm - 3.30pm Children arrive- Afternoon Tea

3.30pm - 4.30pm Homework or silent reading

4.30pm - 5.30pm Optional group activity (art, sport, games, drama etc.)

2007 Event - Venue and Time

The next YMCA Carols by Candlelight event will be held on December 13th at Queens Park. (If postponed it will be held on 17th December.)

The true spirit of Christmas

This annual event is a mixture of traditional and contemporary carols where some of Southland's young local talent is exhibited. It is an event in which the whole family can participate.

Raise up n Represent

The Youth Crew Concept

We offer a unique opportunity in our Raise up Crew to be a part of a group that organises and runs activities and events for other young people. This group made up of two young people selected from each secondary school and is mentored and facilitated by a YMCA staff person. Events and workshops are offered to Southland youth throughout the year, and vary from basketball and rock climbing to interschool socials and environmentally focused wearable arts fashion shows.

About Raise up n Represent

Raise up n Represent is a youth programme that has been designed to give youth a safe and healthy environment in which to relax, socialise and achieve. The aim is to support youth being physically fit, to encourage personal ownership and leadership, and to foster a sense of pride and respect for themselves, and the communities in which they live.
